Just received a .rar file (rar archive) that turned out to be bigger than
the pdf file contained in it. Any one has any ideas why or how it could be.
Only one file was in it.

Rar will add it's own overhead
I have not looked at rar format yet, wondering rar just archives or it does
compression as well
