I support attempting this transition during Lucid's development cycle.
It does IIRC have a pretty big reverse dependency swarm, so it will
require a bit of coordination to do.

gpointing-device-settings 1.3.1-2 seems to be installed (properly), as
seen in the "Synaptics Package Manager".
I can't find the program, though; and hence still can't use my IBM
Thinkpad's middle-mouse-button scrolling... :-(
Could you help me out perhaps?

Right now, libmp4v2 is provided by the mpeg4ip package, which has ceased
development since September 2007.
In 2009, the library was forked into a separate project, available here:
