Concerning kid3 and libmp4v2: With version 1.3 of kid3 and version 1.6
of TagLib (package libtag1c2a), kid3 can use TagLib for MP4 files if it
is linked without libmp4v2. However MP4 album art is not possible with
TagLib.

The first five will pose no problems. kid3 and faac can be built without
libmp4v2 support (in fact, for kid3, this is our only divergence from
Debian).

Right now, libmp4v2 is provided by the mpeg4ip package, which has ceased
development since September 2007.
In 2009, the library was forked into a separate project, available here:
http://code.google.com/p/mp4v2/
It is packaged on debian

I've recently checked all xvid source files to update debian/copyright,
and everything is under GPL2+ except for 2 files
(src/dct/{fdct.c,idct.c}) which license I paste below.
What makes xvid non-free material (I thought pat

sidenote: it has turned out that faac claims to be LGPL, but in fact is
not. Keeping it in multiverse until someone investigates the issue
further seems a good idea.

The issue with a transitional package (as brought up by James Westby) would be
that, being in universe, it wouldn't be able to pull libmp4v2 from multiverse.
So, hypothetically, users who install
