Have you tried the amd64 iso?
The i386 iso boots on my macbook too. But amd64 iso doesn't. See the bug 633983.

I have a second generation Mac Mini that boots 10.10. I did initially have
trouble but I went to the reFIT site which said I needed to update that
package. I did and it works now. Let me know if anyone needs more information
and I can send the specs for my machine and software version.
