We can hack around this by using Loaders (a qml component which delays
loading another component). We've done that in other places of the
settings, but it's quite some effort and leads to ugly code.
I've filed bug #1276066 for the toolkit a while ago asking for a way to
temporarily stop animations

The xcb plugin has a bug that causes a Conditional jump or move depends
on uninitialised value(s) each time a glx window is created.
That is fixed upstream at https://codereview.qt-
project.org/#change,80007 it would be good if we could add it to our
5.2.1 packages.

This is indeed not yet implemented in unity8, this will also require
changes in the toolkit, as shell will need to mediate orientation
between apps depending on sensors, orientation lock and relation between
apps (i.e. app in mainstage, app in sidestage, but only one supports
rotation).
