This is expected behaviour if the emulator has never been started
before. In order for QtCreator to know about which framework a emulator
supports the emulator first needs to be booted and properly detected.

Title:
  Autocreate doesn't recognize the device

Status in qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Clicking on autocreate in the device tab doesn't create a kit, but
instead pops a dialog: "The supported framework of device is not
known, please make sure to redetect the device features". That happens
on any channel. Creating a framework from the ubuntu options solves
the issue for the stable channel.

  Expected:
Clicking on autocreate to autocreate a proper kit for the selected emulator.

  Description: Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS
  Release: 14.04

  qtcreator-plugin-ubuntu:
    Installed: 3.1.1+15.10.20150508-0ubuntu1i~0trusty1
    Candidate: 3.1.1+15.10.20150508-0ubuntu1i~0trusty1
