In the same area, none of the -publication jobs are run after a package
install. Only the eucalyptus-cloud-publication works as expected - it
starts on started eucalyptus-cloud and doesn't depend on neither ssh nor

Right. However the eucalyptus update should be applied at the same time
as the avahi-daemon update. In such a scenario the daemon will be

Tested the hardy-backport patch and it fixes my issue. I can now run
successful installs of karmic under a qcow2+virtio guest while the
current version of kvm in hardy-backport fails.
