I also came across with the above error message while using ssh.
I tried ssh in 2 machines in a loop. Only 1 showed(machine 21, below) the
error. And in that machine(21)i had changed the password once before i ssh. So
i think the error may be because of the password change.

Thierry,
Personally, I think that this should not make it into the release notes
either.
I believe that this is a very rare issue that I couldn't even fully confirm.
Not even upstream has payed attention to it. So, if I wasn't even able to
confirm this bug, I think that this should not go to the

Actually, it supports backing stores just fine in both Lucid and
Maverick (I use them all the time) for both storage pools and backed
qemu disks (I use them all the time) and the issue you are seeing is a
result of an upstream libvirt security fix, and not the AppArmor
security driver.

You are indeed correct that specifying the format of the disk image file
corrected the issue. However, this is also a fairly large regression
over previous functionality. Configurations that worked flawlessly
under lucid will now break under maverick. Additionally, the reason for
the breakage
Unfortunately, the error reporting in libvirt didn't make this easier, but the
problem can be seen clearly with:

Jamin, your vm.xml does not contain enough information-- you must
specify the disk format when defining a new VM. Simply put, if you are
using a qcow2 disk you must specify driver name='qemu' type='qcow2'/

Jamie, I understand that the vm.xml does not contain enough information
for the version of libvirt in maverick. I understand that with
maverick's version one now has to supply a disk format. However, this
was not the case with libvirt under lucid. Furthermore, not providing
the disk format does

Sure applications change with versions. However, they normally also
