Bug was rasied on 2008-04-04 and has 14 duplicates, yet this is somehow invalid?
I don't even use Ubuntu anymore because of silly issues like this.
What do we need to do to get action on this?

@Clint Byrum
How about we fix the bug for the next release instead of marking it as invalid?

To all who would like to see this released into lucid-updates, we need
to have some verification of bug #558793 as well, since both of them are
included in the package currently in -proposed.

The debian developers disabled avahi support back in 2009:
* ./configure --disable-avahi, to avoid accidentally picking up an avahi
dependency when libavahi-common-dev is installed.

After applying the patches, winbind is behaving nicely and we also have
no more panics!
Please escalate this into lucid-updates!

I tested the package from maverick-proposed against the current package
from maverick: both of the problems that were discussed in this bug
report are now gone (squid starts sucessfully with network not being
available yet, resolvconf script reloads the squid configuration and
does not kill squid)

Just chiming in to say that 3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.6 from lucid-proposed
also fixed this problem on our servers as well.
We've gone from daily winbind panics to no crashes since. We haven't
noticed any side-effects either.
Any idea if or when this makes it into lucid-updates?
