I believe we saw this on an intel Emerald Ridge box w/ 40 cores recently
as well with the latest Oneiric while at the OpenStack summit. This is
actually one of Canonical's spare kernel build machines, and should be
directly available for testing.

Here is a deb of the smbk5pwd overlay, packed for 10.04 Lucid. It is a
patched version, which also updates the shadowLastChange attibute if
exists.

The puzzling line of output is something like:

which appears without any explanation in the output of an apt operation
when etckeeper is invoked.
A suitable "patch" would be to simply add >/dev/null to the "bzr whoami"
invocation in 50vcs-commit.sh

I didn't actually notice the failed install. But connectivity went
away. I had to remove and re-install Samba from scratch to get it
working again. Note also that security=user seems to cause the Samba
server to be invisible to Windows 7 machines--by changing that one line

This is not an appropriate rule because it negates the property of guest

but it is not (which is the bug). This could be done in a couple of
ways. What are the contents of /var/log/libvirt/qemu/guest1.log after

It's not clear to me what package this bug affects:
Based on Log output:

Thanks for the bug report, please can you comment if something else was
running concurrently that was using dpkg?
It looks like another dpkg based process locked the db.

@smoser, this patch targets developers rather than consumers right?
That being the case, as the Ubuntu nova packages are releasing soon - is
this patch of more use in P-Series?
Ie, what is the impact if this doesn't land in Oneiric?
Thanks.

@maxb, thanks for the bug report. Can you expand on the "puzzling line

Perhaps if you are able to, proposing a patch would be really useful.
