I also had this problem with ubuntu 12.04 and mysql-server 5.5, and
Paul's fix also worked for me. Seems like a pretty silly reason for
mysql to crash.

DNSMasq, and disabled dns=dnsmasq in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf, and started the service, there
were errors reported because of Postfix not having any configuration:

The share server does not do any routing that I know of, however it may
