It appears that removing squid3 does not delete the file
/etc/logrotate.d/squid3. I installed squid3, and then did
# apt-get remove squid3
# apt-get autoremove
The next night, I received a cron error email containing:
/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
logrotate_script: 2:
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
