Interesting, i launched 10 instances and grepped cloud-init timestamps.
it seems pretty reliable that the ifdownup cycle is reported to take between 12
and 22 seconds.

I'm going to fix this issue simply by not capturing output. I had done
that initially because there is no /dev/console output on azure.
However, if the user wants to see output, they should just have their
supplied command be 'sh' and redirect to a file.

It seems that the intent of /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate is to
background itself, as it creates a subshell with &.
As reported in bug 1202758, this doesn't seem to work correctly. That
doesn't close the file descriptors. As a result, if something is
waiting on the output of
for my usecase, it would probably be nicest if I could just disable this via
environment variable.
perhaps:
DISABLE_NTPDATE=1 ifup eth0
and then just a simple check for that variable in the script:

The problem is not a bug but an issue with the image that was being
booted.
Needed to properly publish the image to glance:

This appears to be a kernel problem. The command works in Precise and
Quantal but not Raring. I tested this on Precise using the HWE stack
[1].
$ sudo /usr/lib/nagios/plugins/check_ide_smart -n -d /dev/sda
OK - Operational (7/7 tests passed)
Output after changing to the Raring kernel:
CRITICA
I tried the mainline 3.8.1 kernel [1] on Precise and the command works.
This suggests that there is something in the Ubuntu-distributed kernel
that is causing the problem.

When I send a "Disconnect-Request" to a Hostapd instance, it sends back
a "Disconnect-ACK" packet with a Message-Authenticator set.
However, radclient thinks the value of this Message-Authenticator is
invalid (because it doesn't check properly).

I send the packet like this (IP of the hostap instance is 10.0.0.2,
Event-Timestamp is "current" when I try this, otherwise hostapd wouldn't
send a Disconnect-ACK, but just not reply at all, this happened to me
during some earlier debugging):
