Probably like the rest of you, I stumbled across this bug when I was
looking for a way to remove ntpdate from my system because I'm using
ntp, and I don't want the meta package to go away. Here's a workaround.
1. Install the package equivs. This is a simple tool to create trivial
Debian packages.

I am not sure where the pid file is located in Ubuntu (it would be best
to read the value from /etc/php5/fpm/php-fpm.conf)...

printed the line like:

Correct. Attached is a juju-deployer config that reproduces the issue

Sorry for the frustration. It is certainly not unreasonable to expect
14.04 to be working.
br0 is only brought up on first boot, so rebooting would not have
