This is still affecting Debian 7.2 as of today, is any workaround
available meantime?

When starting up on a system with only java7 from Oracle installed the
init script cannot find any jvm to run.
This can be solved by adding the path "/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-oracle" to
the list of possible java vm locations inside the init script.

Even worse, once you go for Tomcat7 there is no way back to Tomcat6 with
apt, reported error is:

@Igor can't your repackaged versions be simply put back to the main repo
to become available and configuration merged to solve this issue?
