Is the 'working virtio-scsi driver' which was provided a kernel driver,
or is it a qemu patch? If qemu patch, can you point to which one? If
it is a kernel issue, then this bug should be re-targeted to 'linux'.

could you please show the results of 'ps -ef | grep qemu' while the vm
is running?
To be clear, are you saying that, on the same host, you are able to
install a 14.04 Ubuntu guest, but installing a 14.10 Ubuntu guests
fails?
