This sounds like an upstream bug to me. The best route to getting it fixed in Ubuntu in this case would be to file an bug with the upstream project. Otherwise, I am not sure what we can do directly in Ubuntu to fix the problem. The upstream place where you can open an issue is: https://github.com/SSSD/sssd/issues And you can basically copy and paste what you wrote here there. If you do end up filing an upstream bug, please link to it from here, this way, when upstream addresses it, we can implement the functionality in Ubuntu. Note: you can link the upstream issue here and change the bug to "Whishlist" and this will be tracked for Ubuntu developers when doing next merges/fixes for the sssd package.
