A colleague had this same problem and it turns out there was a debconf
window wanting to know whether to keep or replace the samba config
file... she says the window didn't come to the foreground.

Since I have never been able to reproduce this bug, and there have been
only a handful of reports of this issue, I think this report should be
closed as 'wontfix'. If it is a ucf versioned dependency issue, it will
not be a problem for upgrades to intrepid, and it doesn't seem to be
causing enough
Same, or at least similar experience. Distribution Upgrade hung up and
inactive after several complaints, with 2 minutes to go installing, and
never got to cleanup and reboot.

Steve, actually Update Manager repaired the problems after some
complaint messages. However, the package cleanup process and reboot were
omitted. Looks like I'm fully upgraded to 8.04 now.
So I guess, it's not reproducable for me.

This bug crashed the update from 7.10 to 8.04.

Hi Andreas,
I see that, at least presently, you have the current version of the ucf
package installed from Ubuntu 8.04.
Can you tell me if this error is reproducible for you if you re-attempt
the upgrade? It may be that this dependency on ucf needs to be a
versioned dependency because the previo
