I seem to have the same problem with Unutu 9.10, except that sudo modprobe
kvm_amd npt=0 doesn't help (following dump is after
# rmmod kvm_amd
# rmmod kvm
# modprobe kvm_amd npt=0
# modinfo kvm_amd

I am in karmic and I need to use npt=0 (if I don't specify a value, it's
1) for my XP VM to boot correctly. In jaunty it was fine though, but I
didn't verify the npt value in there.

Can you just install the qemu-kvm binary from Karmic's repo? I think
that should work...

Hmm, the init script should be doing this for you.
I have recently reworked the init script in karmic.
Could you please upgrade to the latest qemu-kvm in Karmic and let me
know if the issue still exists there?
