received the same error when trying to rename a column on a table
containing several million rows.

The system is running Ubuntu 8.04 Server, 64-bit, with all updates. It

I was able to load the same data into MySQL 5.1, running on Ubuntu 10.04
64-bit server, today without encountering the same problem.
