You can't pass root= to the kernel with an UUID or a LABEL; only initrds understand this syntax (so far); the one in the fstab doesn't matter too much I think, but the one passed to the kernel does matter, so if your goal is to avoid hardcoding the device name, it might still be an issue on the ker
