Right, I'm not sure the error you get in the logs (in both cases) is related to the slowness (which you only experience with Windows clients). Those multibyte sequences that the samba server sends errors about might also be the cause of a client-side issue in Windows. Are you able to share those

Is it a problem you also experienced using previous versions of samba ? Unfortunately, we installed the server, then ran a full update upgrading us to the current version. This is our new main fileserver. For a given document, does it always fail ? Doesnt fail, but takes 30-60 seconds to open
