Please can you check the permissions on /var/lib/samba and /var/cache/samba; if
they have both directories
have drwxrwxrwx
nmbd.conf file is attached.

1) Can you provide the file /etc/init/nmbd.conf ?
2) Run the following commands and paste the output here:

$ echo $?
and
