updated a plain ubuntu hardy to their 3.0 beta by adding the
repositories and installed the appropriate packages. There is a rt
2.6.29 kernel as well as updated rosegarden ardour and so forth.

I can confirm this. However it also breaks my acpi support... Sleep mode
no longer works.
