HI,
I've had this issue as well, quite a while ago. The only solution was to
change to another desktop manager:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
(if you have lightdm installed of course.)
and even after switching back:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure kdm
the problem was still solved.

JFTR you can login as user by TTY, but you can't login as user by the
display manager's greeter?

reset, and now, it won't accept my password now. Password though is ok cos I
can log in after ctrl alt f2. Is this a Ubuntu prob or a Studio prob or a KDE
problem O
