There were issues (at least one issue I noticed) with xscreensaver and
perhaps there are still issues when using an old LTS. IIRC each time I
started a user session

thanks a lot for this hints, it works fine now. Have the old
xscreensaver reactivated and lightlocker now I have deinstalled.
