I should note that the description is somewhat inaccurate:
1) Multi-head isn't really the problem, just the easiest way to reproduce it. A
single display with a high enough resolution can trigger it as well.
2) There are two separate limits: max texture size and max framebuffer size.

while the natty and precise branches do contain one - no wonder why the
newer translations are not extracted.

Correction: the strings in the popup window are from
UpdateManager/UpdateManager.py, not do-release-upgrade.
Anyways, fixing this turned out to be a bigger challenge, so I opened bug
#897276.

This started in bug #775659, where check-new-release-gtk's i18n system
was seen coughing (again). During fixing that bug, It turned out that
many more executables are coughing as well. Let's see what's wrong here:
