I think there's an error in the langpacks generation from Rosetta. I think the langpacks generation procedure is using obsolete Rosetta's templates.
The last langpacks updates brings many strings translated in the es_ES locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ ls -l /usr/share/locale-langpack/es_ES/LC_MESSAGES/ total 148 12 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8679 2006-08-02 13:36 acl.mo 20 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16546 2006-08-02 13:36 adduser.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2066 2006-08-02 12:25 adept_installer.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2303 2006-08-02 12:25 adept.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1751 2006-08-02 12:25 adept_notifier.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1925 2006-08-02 12:25 adept_updater.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 869 2006-08-02 12:25 akregator_konqplugin.mo 16 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 16130 2006-08-02 12:25 amarok.mo 16 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 14107 2006-08-02 13:36 dpkg.mo 8 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7310 2006-08-02 13:36 eject.mo 8 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 6661 2006-08-02 13:25 gnome-desktop-2.0.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3862 2006-08-02 13:25 gnome-menus.mo 16 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15178 2006-08-02 13:25 gnome-panel-2.0.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 748 2006-08-02 12:25 kdictapplet.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1306 2006-08-02 12:25 ktorrent.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 934 2006-08-02 13:36 launchpad-integration.mo 12 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 10048 2006-08-02 13:36 tuxpaint.mo 4 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 576 2006-08-02 12:25 ubiquity.mo However, according to the Rosetta's template for the "es_ES" locale, there must be no translations at all, because the "es_ES" locale is not translated, as you can see here: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/dapper/+lang/es_ES (Translatable items: 325365 Untranslated: 325362) Look, for example, the gnome-panel-2.0 template: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/dapper/+source/gnome-panel/+pots/gnome-panel-2.0/es_ES/+translate (Messages: 565 To do: 564) Almost absolutly empty. However, if you look at the gnome-panel-2.0.mo file installed in my system, you can see many translated strings: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~ $ strings -eS /usr/share/locale-langpack/es_ES/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-panel-2.0.mo [...] Project-Id-Version: gnome-panel Report-Msgid-Bugs-To: FULL NAME <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> POT-Creation-Date: 2006-05-23 18:53+0000 PO-Revision-Date: 2006-05-25 16:51+0000 Last-Translator: Natalia Montoro López <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Language-Team: Spanish (Spain) <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 8bit Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=n != 1 %1$s %2$s %1$s, %2$s %A %B de %d %A, %B de %d de %Y %H:%M %H:%M:%S %l:%M %p %l:%M:%S %p %a %b de %e %d %b %l:%M %p %l:%M:%S %p %s no sirve para nada. It seems that the langpack was generated using a template from 2006-05-25. Very old! The translations in the template was changed in june (removing all its translations), and the /usr/share/locale-langpack/es_ES/LC_MESSAGES/gnome-panel-2.0.mo file was correct until the last langpack update (yesterday). This problem has reopened the bug #47870: https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/language-pack-gnome-es-base/+bug/47870 showing "jue ago de 3" instead of "jue 3 de ago" in the clock applet. Hope this helps to correct a very annoying problem. Ricardo. -- ubuntu-translators mailing list ubuntu-translators@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-translators
