Keith a lot of people have this same problem, its my single biggest issue ref ubuntu is the lack of a good frontend for samba.  Good news is that we are working on a nice network setup wizard for ubuntu. Bad news it’s a google summer of code candidate.   In the mean time:   Edit you smb
