Thanks Alan I find if you scroll the page back and forward out of the viewport they come back :-) Tried this first but it didn't work. I'm using a fairly old Samsung R320 laptop - I don't recall having this issue before 14.10 but I could be wrong. I'm also using the metacity fallback window man
