Although they're just "grunt 'n go" models, I've had two Acer Travelmates
with which I've had no problems at all running Linux.

hard drive and increased memory. It came with Ubuntu 7.10 installed
which I upgraded to 8.

In terms of Linux support Brand isn't the thing to look at,
I see Tesco are now selling Dells... huge pile of them in my local branch.

From experience, Dell's are pretty good if you get one with Intel
