Hey guys, I wanted to update you some more about my adventures in
flashing my LG Nexus 5 over to Ubuntu Touch. I've gone through the
flashing process (yes, I was suppose to include a complete walk-through
on my personal website and I'm still working on that), and it was easy.
Took about 20 minutes to get through it and man, the interface is really
nice. It uses Unity as the GUI and that's ok with me. There's some
growing pains here. Many of the apps I relied on while using my iPhone
are not available on Touch but, that's ok. We've got an SDK, the Ubuntu
SDK IDE, to start making those apps, granted I can get permission from
each company to make the app for Touch if someone's not doing it already.
So, I installed the Ubuntu SDK IDE to get into app making since I'm
going to be enrolling in school this fall to finish out my bachelor's
degree and I thought this would be perfect to do along side my school
work for my computer science major. And not to mention learning some
great software to develop some badass video games for 'buntu.
One thing I want to mention, Plasma Mobile's available to use for your
smartphone and Purism is delivering on their Libre 5 phone in January of
2019 since they blew past their funding goal with change to spare. Go
pre-order one of those bad boys for $599. I'm about to. It uses pureOS
as it's operating system and that even looks good on their own laptops.
I think it uses the Gnome desktop with the Wayland server.
So, my daily driver is up and running and I'm loving it so far. it's at
least taking care of my basics needs.
