Gordon Jin from Intel went through quite a few bug reports upstream yesterday and changed i from the chipset names, e.g. form [i855GM] to [855GM]. I asked him about this and it seems it makes sense for us to use this type of names in the bug summaries from now. This could be a good opportunity to harmonize the chipset/CPU in the summary with the tag names on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Tagging#-intel%20driver .
Note that they use i915 and i965 for bugs in those 3D drivers, but the bug reports we forward will typically only be experienced by a single reporter, so we will usually include only the chipset/CPU name in the title. See Gordon's message below. We generally used chipset names, but don't need "i" or "82". Both "855GM" and "855" are acceptable. With intel graphics moving from chipset into cpu, we are starting to use cpu names like "Arrandale", "Clarkdale", "Pineview", and it's also fine to use GMA product name like "GMA HD", "GMA 3150". In some cases (mostly for 3d bugs), we use "i915" (for <965) and "i965" (for >=965) to distinguish the 2 DRI drivers. We already use tags that are more or less captured from the (II) Chipset: line in Xorg.0.log [1]. Do you have a list of chipset names on the form want them upstream, so I can get that implemented in our launchpad bug reports [2]?
