But the problem persist.. And, if some one else can confirm the same
problem in ATI card's.. the problem is not only of nVidia.

I do not think this bug is with the 180 driver even though it
classification has just been changed.. I have tried all the available
nvidia driver available through the ubuntu hardware manager. I have also
tried the 185 beta driver. That said it may be an issue with all the
nvidia graphics driver.

This bug is still reproducible in karmic, it is an UXA issue.
X server seems to crash when log out from KDE session if kdm or xdm are
running. The bug is not reproducible if there is not session manager in use.
Currently this bug is reproducible with:
Ubuntu 9.10 (karmic).

After reinstalling with different scenarios, I believe the problem lies
in the default USA keyboard layout. I've only tested this with Ubuntu Studio
9.04 amd64 version.. Basically, the default selection in the install process
is to not detect the keyboard layout. By doing this and
With todays kernel update 2.6.31-2.15 I no longer need any switches in order to
boot.

Normal graphics mode: Vertical stripes appear in screen
Safe graphics mode: Xorg seems to restart itself few times and message appears
with:
"sil164 not detected
tfp410 not detected
(EE) intel 0: No valid modes"

Since the hardware cannot be used for doing troubleshooting with, we'll

It would probably be nice to have the output of `xvinfo` both with and
without KMS. Also, are you on 32-bit or 64-bit?
