a kernel fix, available in 2.6.31. The fix is too complicated to safely

Hi Bryce,
I still having the same issue with the newer driver but found a
temporary fix. I have booted with the vga option to match the screen
resolution. I have tested it with versions 173 and 180 and it shuts down
perfectly without the artifacts.
