Hmm, screen live again after removing the attached
xorg-disable-synaptics-touchpad-3.patch,

Fix proposed in PPA didn't help me. Still same behaviour - black screen
with mouse cursor after connecting external monitor or after closing
lid. Could anyone confirm that fixed package from PPA is working on
Intel 945GM Express Card? Should I use also kernel newer then 2.6.31-15?

To see if there's a Ubuntu working version, I've installed all versions,
from Karmic 9.10, Jaunty 9.04, Intrepid 8.10, down to Hardy 8.04: all
suffer the same problem.
All were clean installs with all updates applied. My machine is a
Packard-Bell laptop.

I did a clean install of 9.10 and mine is stable so far.
updated to the latest bios from Intel, but no change since then.
I tested it on my old Asus G35 board and havn't got the error at all.

I have the same issue as well. I have done a complete wipe and
reinstall of 9.10 and still no luck. There are bug solutions out there
that state that by turning off desktop effects that will fix the refresh
+1 for this bug.
My system locks up completely the instant I put a tick in the checkbox
of the Reflection plugin. A hard reboot is the only option at this
point. After a hard reboot, my Desktop locks up completely again before
it has fully loaded, rendering my system completely unusable.

Another freeze today. The mouse cursor started lagging and then about an
hour X froze. After the freeze I modified my xorg.conf to disable power
management with Option PM Off.

I had the same error. To fix this I installed ubuntu in new partition,
and copied the below files from xorg 7.4+3ubuntu7, then everything was
ok with the old partition.

The changelog in the PPA only mentions crashes with wobbly windows and
multi-screen. I think that is something different. I don't have wobbly
windows enabled and this seems to purely be a texture size issue.
