No, it is not possible to upgrade only a small part of Karmic. It's fine
if you want to stay on Karmic. This kind of breakage sometimes happens
in the development version of Ubuntu and if you cannot risk that it
might stop working after an upgrade, it is better not to run it. On my

After my update above, my GPU temperature was very high all the time,
getting above 80 at times. I use Compiz Cube, so I configured it to have
0 transparency while not turning, and added a wallpaper (had just a
black background, and my GPU temperature now hovers at around 55
degrees. Evidently,

1) you should remove this file: /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf
This is what prevents you from using the driver, as it blacklists the module
that you need to use. After removing the file and rebooting your system, the

During a partial upgrade from karmic to lucid, I wanted to restart X after
updating the X packages but it didn't come back.
Looking at the gdm log the error could be found pretty fast:

and that ran apt-get dist-upgrade which in turn installed mesa

apparently the second one worked! Remember I am completely unfamiliar
with xconf and chrome etc, so I merely experimented blindly. Here is

I doubt it will ever get fixed since selecting generic 105-key gives full
functionality.
I was always hoping they'd fix the picture for my sun type 6, so I could
print it with my xpilot-ng labels ;) .. I ended up finding the a suitable
drawing on the sun website.

Yes, the desktop environment has worked satisfactorily since but EXA is
a little flakey handling the screensaver.
