I had to update screen-resolution-extra because of a change in the new
PolicyKit. Otherwise when I launched nvidia-settings from the command line I
got this error:

It works well now.

[Karmic] kernel = 2.6.30-10 with vga=791 tty consoles not accessible and not

Do you have another machine from which you would be able to ssh in after the
crash (if it's not a kernel panic, e.g flashing numlock)? If you setup sshd and
ssh in next time it crashes you may be able to get better linfo, maybe even
find the
glxinfo's output may also be useful (specifically if you ware using
dri/dri2(kms) or not).
You can disable KMS by adding i915.modeset=0 to your kernel line, if that
fixes the bug then the error is with xorg

Nice to know I'm not alone in this problem, at least :-). I'm beginning
to think it might have something to do with underclocking the GPU when
on battery power. It's kind of a stretch, but that does explain why the
crash happens more often (or only, in your case) on battery.

What version of Catalyst are you using? I am currently running 9.11, have the

old lady. But this Mobility Radeon Chipset (X2300) is not the

I am not sure which version of xserver-xorg-video-intel you are using
for testing in Lucid, but I must warn you that there is a serious
problem with xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.10.0 that also causes freezes.
The bug was reported upstream since 6th of December and there is still
no solution for it.

If you're on a GUI virtual terminal (say Ctrl-Alt-F7) running an xterm window
and you type chvt 1 Enter to switch to virtual terminal 1, the key-down event
