This is actually a standards issue. The xorg folks are technically right
as the fix we'd want from them would be to make unmapping a window not
actually unmap it which isn't a good idea. What we need is a way to stop
showing the window and not send input to it either. This will most
likely involve

I cannot recall what caused the black screen. But, it was after the
update manager downloaded I believe a low latency real time kernal also
known as preempt and preempt config. I let it have time to shut down and
boot; then, I worked 9 hours some of which included attempting to get
jack control to
#83 works, confirmed. At the moment, it's the best we can get ;)
