I am not a 100 % sure but I think that there was a new version of
xserver-xorg-video-vmware, 1:11.0.1-2 that seems to fix that issue

I was ok until tonight, when I installed all the latest updates.
Got a crash after rebooting, decided to try the 855gm-fix, so I did
the following in a terminal:-
echo options i915 modeset=0 | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/i915-kms.conf
Then did:-
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:glasen/855gm-fix
sudo
cool that this works alexander!
now how can we set this permanent?
since when i unplug and replug or do a system reset i have to set it again

Eugene it seems that way with ati graphics I agree, hence closing
statement in #23 ;-)
Given the graphics issues don't seem to be specific to Google Earth,
does anyone know if a generic bug report has been filed?

I am fairly confident that the actual cause of the bug is emacs and this
