So, DRI is not involved in the 2D-only desktop effects, and the new
nouveau driver should still support all the same XRender extensions the

I'd guess this will be a kwin bug. What is the actual problem that you
are experiencing? What error messages are reported, etc?

Hi all,
Thanks for all the great packages available from your ppa.
I have a question though: I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, I've installed the
latest drivers (256.44) but I got the following packages:
nvidia-173-modaliases, 173.14.27-0ubuntu1
nvidia-96-modaliases, 96.43.18-0ubuntu1
nvidia-common, 0.2.
The nouveau driver in maverick has always supported many of the desktop
effects like transparency and shadows. I don't think these required 3D
support. It could be a problem with kwin as that was upgraded around the
same time as xorg.
Also, libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental is not installed.
--

Nouveau has never had 3D support by default in Ubuntu, although the 3D
component is provided in the libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental package. Do
you have this package installed?
