So NVidia has now publiced a new driver pre-release 256.52.
That one does support new video ABI xserver xorg 8, which is required by the
xserver 1.9.
Now this will fix this bug. It is no more needed to put ignoreAbi text into the
xorg.conf to bypass this issue.
So, please do build a
Bug #626147 - two computers with this bug.

Please note that the installer log info in the nvidia bug report shows
the old installer log where attempted manual install of .35 beta driver.
This was removed and the dump relates to the repo supplied nvidia-
current (256.44) drivers, it is valid just a little misleading at the
top.
I manually
It looks to me like the problem was with xorg-driver-fglrx, which still
had some diversions registered for /usr/lib32/libGL.so.1.2 and
/usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2 despite it no longer being a real package. So
when fglrx tried to restore the libGL.so stuff it failed causing the
entire uninstall to fail.

I'm not sure if what I am experiencing here is the same, but if after I
first turn this computer on I open Konsole and do an upgrade X.org will
crash and chuck me out of the desktop. If I try a second time, it works

So it seems that making their legacy drivers work with X server 1.9 is
low priority issue for NVidia. Too bad that some (including me) just

plymouth 0.8.2-2ubuntu3.
The crashed session is on VT7, new one on VT8.
Crashes on ENTER. Not tried 2.
Intel 4500 graphics. This is unrelated to ati.
Encrypted home, if it matters.

Giorgi Maghlakelidze, Thank you so much!!! Post #93 fixed the problem
for me (on Lucid Lynx 10.04, HP Pavilion Laptop). That bug affected me
for ages.
