You are correct about the new issue of 2D and 3D acceleration sluggishness.
The 2D sluggishness in scrolling for instance can clearly be seen like this:
open synaptic and try to scroll the package list with mouse.
However, this may not be a driver issue after all.
At least NVidias
I realised in my case that dual screen works fine after awake when
suspend the system. In this way you don't have to unplug the monitor in
order to work around the bug.

Hence, I have made a patch on my sys (testing right now) which is more
of a 'hack' rather than a fix, since it instructs plymouth to quit on
deactivate requests as well. Should work well, since during the boot
phase, its the only time it gets a deactivate request.

For me, it works when I just reboot (ctrl+alt+f1, ctrl+alt+del).
Related to this is probably another problem I have with my netbook, that
wifi doesn't work until I reboot, so it's definitely something with
upstart and synchronisation.

Mauricio, good luck with Fedora, however I'm afraid you could
encounter similar problems. It seems that there are serious issues
with newer kernels or/and XOrg (perhaps a combination of them). So as
long you'd stick with fairly old kernel you should be safe (i.e.
2.6.31) anything newer tends to be

I have had a similar behavior here. I am using the nvidia driver.
I don't really like any of the suggested workarounds here. They are all
hacks that don't really fix the bug itself.

My freezes went away once I scrapped ndiswrapper on both Lucid and
Maverick. I would guess that in my case at least, loading sketchy
windows code into the kernel was causing some serious issues.

Thanks for the report, this is most likely an issue with the pixman
version in the PPA. The packages in that PPA are in heavy flux and are
known to be unstable, and reports on launchpad against the Ubuntu
packages aren't really appropriate unless the issues exist in the Ubuntu
packages as well

For me the crash happens after I enter the password to unlock my

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
Scott has tried the packages and we've verified that 101_copy-fb.patch
is the culprit here which is also breaking sandybridge at the moment. In
the second ppa I asked him to try it included a newer version of the
copy-fb patch with slightly changed logic and it did work as well, so

The Windows Wacom driver is able to automatically detect and use
separate settings for multiple mice or styli when used with a Wacom
Tablet--In Linux, this can currently only be done by disabling
hotplugging and configuring every device manually. For those of us with

I've made a number of new installationen lately and have not been able
to reproduce this bug. A lot of things can happen during the development
cycle and as you've done using dist-upgrade each time is
+1. The current version of nVidia drivers (non-free) for Maverick is
265.44 and does not work on my system with a GeForce GT240M. the
Nouveau drivers are useless (no 3D, horrible resolution). I had to
download the /.56 drivers from nVidia to get a proper display on my
system with Maverick.
