I have a similar bug to this but it only appears on my S-Video out.
Whenever I run a hardware accelerated game I get heavy graphic

marked it as such.
As for the bug, I install from Maverick Beta from DVD on another
computer and I face the same problem.
Both computers I use are HP laptops. One 32 bits and the other in 64.

When I tried to remove all the NVIDIA stuff through synaptic, synaptic
told me that the mythtv packages depended on libvdpau. Maybe that's why
the nvidia driver got installed?

I had this problem and resolved the issue by editing /etc/group to
include a
root:x:0:
line.
What was happening was that the line
chown root:root $SOCKET_DIR
which is responsible for the ownership of /tmp/.X11-unix in
/etc/init.d/x11-common was calling the root group, which is not created
Declining the Maverick specific nomination for now and leaving this open
against the actively developed Ubuntu kernel (which happens to be
Maverick at this time). Will re-open the nomination should a fix be
narrowed down which we can confirm specifically resolves this issue in
Maverick.

madbiologist - yea, I know all that (Unix user since 1976, sysadmin for
30 years). Two things work against trying it:
- I'd need to bring over my custom xorg.conf file and restart X to enable
the two cards to work together - I can't just run the CD as is
