This is exactly what I am experiencing -- hitting enter key is not so
great anymore with 10.10 beta! In fact it happened first time I hit
enter after booting upgraded system, and is happening frequently since
(every 10 minutes or so when using Enter normally).

David, I just uploaded a new kernel (currently building for both Lucid
and Maverick) that reverts the commit that caused the invisible cursor
regression. That way you or anyone else experiencing this bug isn't
stuck on an RC kernel until there's a proper fix.
The new kernel is
new tweak: removing/purging everything about compiz, then rebooting
this time this issue is gone: login work as it might, reinstalling
compiz make this issue back again: so as this happen on maverick and not
with lucid (without compiz), it seems to me that something into
pam/gdm/compiz settings

VGA1) but xrandr (and also the gnome-display-properties tool) tell me,
that the maximal resolution for the external monitor is 1360x786. That's
wrong.

I can confirm the bug on a SP6000 using Ubuntu 10.04.
The maximum resolution that it supports by default is 800x600. The odd
thing is that even though I have enabled image stretching in the BIOS,
the displayed screen is squarely at the centre of the monitor.

Unlike the root user, I don't think there's anything special about the
group ID of group `root'. IOW, the kernel places no special
significance on GID 0. So the chown can't change from root:root to
root:0 because group root isn't necessarily GID 0. That leaves ensuring
a group called root

This only happens the first time I login. The second time, I login, then
I get the dialog to unclok the keyring but there's no more crash. But if
I reboot then it happens againg. I try to get a backtrace and this is

I can confirm this. The last version my Dell Latitude D800 with GeForce4
graphics worked with, was 8.04. That's what I'm still running. I tried
installing 10.04 to HD and then installing the binary driver nvidia 96. But the
problem remained after a reboot.
