Since I migrated my two machines to maverick they experience the same issue,
under certain circonstances I didn't succed to define, there are some artefacts
created on the display.
On the attached screenshot, you can see the artefact was created

If uninstall the 260.19.06 driver, i'm really not sure what i revert to
(nouveau?) but I still have the bug. If i boot directly from the xubuntu
installation cd, everything works fine.
I've attached my /var/log/Xorg.0.log (as it appears after removing the
non-free driver) - the way I read it, the

My xorg version is 1:7.5+6ubuntu3, as of 'lsb_release -rd'.

The X server should have started with 1440x900 as resolution, as it's my
monitor's native resolution.

and has made my maverick machine useless. I get a black screen after
starting X. No gdm/login appears. /var/log/Xorg.0.log indicates no
problems at all; it reaches enabled.

xserver-xorg-video-intel does not have support for Sandybridge Xv video
acceleration, but it advertises support and attempting to use it is
causing a system hang. Given that these devices will be released before
11.04 is
Same as Yuriy. My card is a 9800 GT.
The issue seems fixed everywhere except Firefox.
Epiphany, Chromium (and other apps that I've tried) behave correctly (scroll is
very smooth).

Hi Guys, I'm really loving 10.10 and thank you again for all your great

While waiting for the new fix to arrive here's a work-around that's
working for me:
* make sure you have a (previously working) /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.
* change the line, in the xorg.conf file, that loads the nvidia
fixed in latest 173.14.28 binary driver

Hi folks,
Just thought I'd see if I could get some help. I haven't had any success
in getting Ubuntu to recognize my Nvidia 8800GT card for about a year
now. Now I have jumped through some hoops, searched the net, the forums,
etc. I've even occasionally tried installing the
Hmm Well, X is 1.9 and nouveau is reporting that it is built for
1.8.99.905 (5 Aug, as it happens).
Then it loops through a bunch of drmOpenMinor calls, all of which return
-1 (geek for fail, I suspect).
Then finally reports

edger I have so far not seen this bug. I saw this bug with stock kernel
and xorg-edgers, so it seems the kernel makes the difference.

I'm running Maverick Meerkat and been updating it every day. From
yesterday to today's update it seems the screen is somewhat shifted to
the left outside the screen range. I've an old HP laptop with an Intel
graphics card and an old Samtron 71S
same problem with thinkpad t42p, except it happened after the screen was
turned off.

full reboot fixed the problem.
The backlight was stuck off, so I used a bright flashlight to see what
was on the screen to save my work and reboot.

Please ignore this bug report. It seems that for that resolution, the
screen requires a 75 Hz resolution frequency. I've changed to that
frequency and it is working fine. My apologies for this.

I have white screen after installing fglrx, no menus, buttos, etc... Keyboard

If I make sudo apt-get remove fglrx in recovery mode, than my monitor goes to
