process. And you're correct that if I had read the release notes, I
might have discovered that it would be better to wait. On the other

FWIW, I see many people dropping Windows (even though it's a very solid
OS these days,) and moving to MACs and PCs running Ubuntu. In fact
Ubuntu is now a mainstream operating system

10.04 - 10.10beta: could not install the upgrades - Couldn't configure
pre-depend
Downloaded the 256.53 driver from the Nvidia site and it seems to work.
This is a little easier to install then the scripts above:
http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/256.53/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.53.run
Forgot to mention that the above binaries say that the preinstall script
fails but they still install successfully.

At the risk of being a me-tooer, I am experiencing this with the following card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G96 [Quadro FX 380] (rev1)
01:00.0 0300: 10de:0658 (rev a1)
In my case, this is happening on meerkat. I don't know if the 10.10
instalation was working correctly
At the risk of being a me-tooer, I am experiencing this with the following card:

The screen grays out for several seconds and sometime get darker. On any
program I run. Usually Firefox and OpenOffice 3.2. I also installed Kenel
2.6.35.xxx
I suspect its the driver for nvidia 173.
