This is still an issue. I tried (kubuntu) natty-desktop-amd64+mac.iso from
2011-01-03 on a 27 inch iMac with Radeon 4850 (iMac11,1). Unfortunately, i have
no external LCD, so i can't help you with the output of /sys/class/drm/card0.
However, i did boot the livecd with vesa graphics, and this is
Bryce, yes, it's still the case. The effect is still really random and
we will have to wait a little (sometimes even not without touching the
keyboard). My device is a 17' laptop but I can bring it during the
sprint.

Title:
compiz crashes when using alt-tab (the radeon driver kills it)
I've seen this type of corruption before with -ati. I think this is a
driver bug.
Could you run 'apport collect 681915'? This will attach necessary files
for diagnosing X bugs. Then I think we should forward this upstream for
guidance.
** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu)

nvidia-current kernel module failed
It just happened again and I noticed a message about a timeout (510 ms,
I think) waiting for a GPU reset. I don't remember the exact text; the
machine hard-crashed and rebooted before I could write it down.

In Maverick (with KMS enabled), the main performance issue I still
experience is slow scrolling in Firefox (especially when viewing pages
like slashdot.org and yahoo.com). I found recently that if I disable
EXA pixmaps (Option EXAPixmaps off in xorg.conf), my scrolling
performance improves

This patch forces the QGL APIs to share the same OpenGL context, or so
it should, according to the documentation.
Hopefully this solves the problem. Unfortunately I have no way of
testing for myself, since I do not have an ATI card supported by the
latest FGLRX driver.
