I have installed the PPA and at least for me it seems to solve my issue.
I have rebooted the eee pc 5 times now and the login worked every time.
I will continue to test it but I would consider this a fix. I hope you
get it in the final release.

nvidia-current wfm, but only after a reboot. Logout alone doesn't work (it
returns to a console, instead of to gdm), and gdm isn't restartable. The logs
show the kernel complaining about mismatching API, but unity didn't ask for a
reboot (the driver needs to touch /var/run/reboot-required).

worked fine(!): I got the desktop showing on the external monitor as
expected. The odd thing is that with the laptop lid closed I still get
a blank external monitor...

This has never happened in Maverick, or any other Ubuntu release before
that (since 8.04 on this same box), only in Natty, and at least twice (the

When I first installed Natty I got this error message on every boot up,
however the machine did not totally lock up. When I installed the
updates the next day, it booted normally without error messages and has

Hmm, my last system upgrade was ~12 hours prior to that according to my
