I had Oneiric Alpha 3 installed on a Thinkpad X201. Today, I updated it
to Beta 1 + latest updates (there were 650+ updated packages) and now, I
have no X session.
On boot, the system boots, and for an instant I see the purple splash
screen with the dots. Then I get a black
Scratch the last... I think it was unity-2d that was starting somehow.
Back to standard 'Ubuntu Classic' - compiz settings are reset & all 3D
is working again in that desktop mode. Sorry for the noise.

[Quadro4 900 XGL] and 96.43.20-0ubuntu1~natty1. It's a little wonkey as

I get a strange error once a day tops. I will be typing along and
suddenly the keyboard will not respond. The mouse works and the system
appears fine - I can launch programs with the mouse, shut down, etc.

XkbSendLegacyMapNotify, probably the source of the MappingNotify event.
Apparently the keyboard device changes from physical to on-screen

Here and 2 days after I did a clean install from the start ubuntu 11.04
amd64, do not start at all ubuntu only in low graphic mode. I do all the
upgrades and the problem remains. If I install the proprietary driver of
